This intensive week-long workshop is for teen and adult dancers who have at least 3 years of ballet training. This workshop is a great way to get back into dancing shape before regular Fall classes start up again! SCHEDULE MON TUES WED THUR FRI 10:30 – 11 a.m. Conditioning for Dancers 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Ballet Technique 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. LUNCH 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Character Dance Pointe Prep Character Dance Pointe Prep Character Dance 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Repertoire Conditioning for Dancers: This class will include a warm-up that is focused on mobilising and activating all of the muscles dancers will be using in Ballet Technique. Exercises will be performed both standing and on the floor using a mat. Ballet Technique: Dancers will develop technical, musical and performance skills in a traditional ballet class setting that includes Barre Work, Centre Practice, Pirouettes, Adagio and Allegro. Character Dance: A balletic representation of traditional folk dance, character dance uses movements and music that have been adapted for the stage. Famous ballets that showcase charater dance include Don Quixote, Paquita and Swan Lake. Pointe Preparation: This class is designed to help dancers get strong enough for pointe work, and is beneficial for everyone – even if you are not going to go onto pointe for a little while. Simple exercises to improve foot control and strength will be covered. Repertoire: Dancers will learn group and/or sole dance(s) inspired by famous ballets. Over three days, come explore the world of ballet and learn about basic dance technique with Ms. Claire Perreault, a Canada's National Ballet School graduate and Royal Academy of Dance certified teacher. This workshop is ideal for dancers who have less than 2 years of ballet training and are interestd in improving their dance skills this summer. It is an excellent opportunity for dancers with experience in other styles of dance to learn more about correct stance, turnout, and stretch of the legs and feet. CLASS DESPCRIPTION For the first 30 minutes of class, dancers will learn a series of warm-up excercises that will prepare their bodies for ballet movements. Exercises in this section of the class will be performed standing and on the floor using a mat. The remaining 90 minutes will be dedicated to a full ballet class including at the barre, and sequences in the centre and acroos the floor. If you will be parking at the venue please mention you are watching the Joy of Dance show. Please notify your teacher as soon as possible IF YOU THINK YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE PERFORMING. REHEARSAL TIMES –There will be a full run through of the show prior to the performance. Each class will be given a call time for the children to be dropped off Parent Helpers ARRIVAL TIMES Performers ARRIVAL TIMES Kids 10 - 12 12:10 p.m. 12:30 p.m. Kids 7 - 10 12:40 p.m. 1 p.m. Kids 5 - 7 1:55 p.m. 2:15 p.m Kids 3 - 5 2:10 p.m. 2:30 p.m. *Teens have individual call times from their teacher Please pack a SMALL SNACK (nut free) for your child in plastic containers - nothing with wrappers or that may be messy to eat. TICKETS can be purchased at the Joy of Dance reception. Students performing will NOT NEED to purchase a ticket. CASH ONLY at the box office PARENT HELPERS – Classes with children 12 years and under will need parent helpers. If you are interested, please speak with your child’s teacher. Volunteers MUST STAY with the class from rehearsal time AND until the last child has gone home. THERE IS NO SAVING SEATS. COSTUMES have been organized with each teacher. All costumes have been ordered & must be paid for immediately at the front desk. IF YOU ARE PAYING CASH THERE IS NO TAX. We will not be bringing unpaid costumes to the Theater and they WILL NOT be available for purchase on the day of the show.
