The 7TH Annual NYC Dance Parade and Festival is the only one of it’s kind to celebrate dance in all its myriad forms. It begins with a street parade through Greenwich Village, and a festival featuring performances, free workshops and dance classes in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. This year’s theme, Unity Through Dance, is something Joy of Dance embraces. After participating in the parade at 1:00 p.m. Joy of Dance Comp Teens will be among 200 dance groups performing and the only Canadians at the event. They will be performing “Subway”, a Hip Hop piece choreographed by Shameka Blake, at 5:37 on Saturday May 18.
“To be selected to perform and be part of the 80 different styles of dance represented at the Festival is a honor.” says Jennifer Jones, CEO Joy of Dance Centre in Toronto. “This is an amazing event, with a timely and uplifting theme. We are delighted to give our teen dancers an opportunity to dance down Broadway and be part of this amazing world called dance,” says Jones.
Joy of Dance Centre is dedicated to the best in all things dance. Located at 95 Danforth Ave. Toronto, Joy of Dance is easily accessed via public transit or, if driving, public and street parking are available.
