Ballet for Teens - Level 1

Teen Ballet: Rec and R.A.D. Exam Prep Classes

Joy of Dance is thrilled to offer Teen ballet classes for recreational students as well as more serious dancers. We welcome all dancers who are new to dancing or have up to 5 years of experience. The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is an internationally recognized organization which trains ballet teachers, provides a fantastic syllabus for students to learn and offers exams to help promote goal setting, motivation and personal achievement in students. Our Ballet teachers are all registered teachers with the RAD and offer the chance for our Teen students to take part in this fantastic system of training.

TEEN Ballet is a year long program. Showcase performance is in June.

EXAM TRACK: Twice a week students can choose between recreational or exam track. Exam Track dancers work towards presenting the syllabus work for an external examiner. There will be two mandatory mock exams in preparation for the RAD exam. Private lessons are available to students at a reduce rate. We want all students to feel prepared for their exams.

All Dancers wishing to enter level 2 or 3 must attend a placement class on Tuesday, August 29 at 2 p.m.

LEVEL 1

Teacher: Emily Tench

Once/week Recreational Class: Sundays 2 – 3:15 p.m. (Full year September – June)

No Prerequisite.

Course will include: Foundational ballet training for beginner students who want to experience ballet. Vocabulary based on the RAD Grades 1-3 syllabi. There is no exam at this level as we feel students need time to develop their strengths without the pressure of an exam. This course develops the skills necessary to proceed into Level 2 after a full year. Students will perform in the June 2018 Showcase.

Fees: $370/term + HST. Term fees are due September 10, 2017 and February 1, 2018. No discount available. (Showcase costume fee $50-$70)

Please Note: It is our goal at Joy of Dance to prepare each teen to the best of their ability for their exam. In January of the exam year, if a student progress has been delayed we will contact the family and discuss a plan to ensure that student’s best option for success. Solutions might include private lessons, or a decision to not take the exam that year. This will be a collective decision.
